GoCar Tour Barcelona
The GoCar Tour is a self-drive sightseeing experience in Barcelona using small, GPS-guided electric two-seater cars. The full-day tour covers three routes — the Gaudí Route (including Sagrada Família, Park Güell, and Torre Bellesguard), the Gothic Quarter and Montjuïc, and the Beach and Shopping route along the Mediterranean coast. Prices start from approximately €74 per person for the full day. Park Güell admission is not included — you need a separate timed-entry ticket.
The GoCar is one of Barcelona’s more distinctive sightseeing experiences. Rather than sitting on a bus or following a guide, you and a companion drive yourselves around the city in a bright yellow, open-topped electric three-wheeled car — roughly the size of a golf cart — guided by a talking GPS system that narrates the landmarks as you pass them.
It is a genuinely different way to experience the city, and for the right visitor — someone who enjoys the freedom of self-guided exploration, wants to cover a lot of ground, and has a reasonable comfort level with city driving — it is memorable and fun.
What’s Included
A self-driven GPS-guided vehicle with pre-recorded audio commentary triggered at each landmark. Three routes available: Gaudí Route (Park Güell, Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló), Gothic/Montjuïc Route, and Beach Route. Monumental Zone admission to Park Güell is not included and must be purchased separately in advance.
The GoCar vehicle A two-seater electric open-top car with an onboard GPS navigation system. The car talks — a friendly voice provides directions and narrates facts, stories, and commentary about the sights you pass. You can follow the pre-programmed routes or deviate at any time to explore independently; the GPS guides you back to the route when you are ready to continue.
Full-day tour: three combined routes The full-day package combines all three GoCar Barcelona routes into a single day:
- Gaudí Route (morning, ~3 hours): Starting from GoCar HQ near Arc de Triomf, the route takes you uptown through Gràcia to Sagrada Família, onwards to Park Güell, through the hills to Torre Bellesguard, Sarria, Pedralbes Monastery, the Dragon’s Gate (Pavelló Güell), and Camp Nou. – Gothic Quarter and Montjuïc (midday, ~3 hours): Through La Rambla, Palau Güell, El Raval, MACBA, then up to Montjuïc — the Olympic Stadium, Miro Foundation, Montjuïc Castle, and panoramic views over the city. – Beach and Shopping Route (afternoon, ~3 hours): Along the Mediterranean coast to Barceloneta, Port Olímpic, Diagonal Mar, and back through Poble Nou to GoCar HQ.
GPS audio commentary in 8 languages English, German, French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Russian, and Portuguese.
Free-roaming option You are not obliged to follow the pre-programmed routes. “Freestyle” mode lets you drive anywhere within the city limits, with the GPS still providing navigation.
What is NOT included: – Park Güell Monumental Zone admission (€18 for adults — must be booked separately as a timed-entry ticket) – Entry to any attraction along the route – Food and drinks – A €300 refundable security deposit is required at pickup (payable by credit card or cash) – Collision Damage Waiver (available as an optional add-on at pickup, approximately €9.90 per vehicle) – Non-EU drivers need a valid international driving licence or a paid-for translation (approximately €20, available at the GoCar office on weekdays)
Tour Prices 2026
Note: prices are per person, not per GoCar. Each vehicle carries two people, so the per-vehicle cost is approximately double the listed per-person rate.
Park Güell on the GoCar Gaudí Route
The Gaudí Route passes directly outside Park Güell and stops at a nearby parking area. From the GoCar stop it is approximately 5–10 minutes’ walk to the Carretera del Carmel entrance. The GoCar does not include Monumental Zone admission — you must have a pre-booked timed ticket to enter — see our Park Güell Admission Ticket article.
Park Güell is one of the headline stops on the Gaudí Route. The GPS guides you up through the Gràcia neighbourhood to the park, narrating the story of Gaudí and Eusebi Güell and explaining what you will find inside.
However, the GoCar drops you at the park — it does not get you in. If you want to enter the Monumental Zone (the Dragon Staircase, Hypostyle Room, and Main Terrace), you need a separately booked timed-entry ticket. The GoCar GPS will direct you to a parking area near the park entrance, and you can leave the car while you visit — but you need to manage your own timed slot and ensure you return to the car within your booked GoCar time.
This requires careful coordination: book your Park Güell timed slot for a specific time window, plan your GoCar route to reach the park at that time, and allow enough time for your Monumental Zone visit before returning to the car.
What Driving a GoCar Is Actually Like
The GoCar is an electric vehicle roughly the size of a large scooter with a fibreglass body and two seats. It is easy to drive — most visitors find city driving straightforward within the first few minutes — but it is not a car in the conventional sense. It is open to the elements (bring a layer in cooler weather), attracts significant attention from pedestrians and other drivers (expect to be photographed and waved at), and requires reasonable alertness in Barcelona’s busy city traffic.
Reviewer feedback is consistently split between those who found it brilliantly fun and those who found city navigation stressful, particularly when the GPS failed to provide adequate warning before lane changes. Reading the GPS instructions carefully before setting off and giving yourself plenty of buffer time on each route reduces frustration significantly.
Who This Tour Is Best For
The GoCar tour is ideal for pairs of travellers who want maximum flexibility and a genuinely novel sightseeing experience. If you enjoy self-guided exploration and want to cover a wide range of Barcelona beyond just the Gaudí highlights, the full-day tour delivers extraordinary breadth. It is also well suited to visitors who have already done the standard guided tours and want a different perspective on the city.
It is less suitable for solo travellers (the car seats two and the per-person price assumes a pair), visitors with limited mobility (the car has low seating and no automatic accessibility features), families with young children under 7, or anyone who finds city driving stressful.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the GoCar Tour include Park Güell admission?
No. The tour takes you to Park Güell but does not include the Monumental Zone entry ticket. Book your timed-entry ticket separately in advance and coordinate the timing with your GoCar schedule.
Is it difficult to drive a GoCar in Barcelona traffic?
Most visitors find it manageable once underway, though Barcelona’s city centre can be busy and lane changes occasionally require quick decisions. The GPS provides guidance but does not always give long advance notice for turns. Driving at a relaxed pace and staying alert reduces stress significantly.
What if it rains?
GoCars are open-topped with minimal weather protection. In light rain, driving is possible but uncomfortable. Operators typically allow rebooking in the event of significant rain — check the weather policy when booking.
Can I visit Park Güell and still complete the full-day tour?
Yes, but it requires coordination. Allow at least 1.5–2 hours at Park Güell (including the walk from the parking area), time your GoCar arrival at the park to match your timed-entry slot, and plan your day accordingly.
Is the €300 deposit refundable?
Yes, in full upon safe return of the vehicle with no damage.
